Smoking - How can I quite?
It is a fact that tobacco damages our health. Then why, in the 21st century do some of us continue to smoke? By the way, I am included in this group. Are we on a suicide mission? Do we have a death wish? I know that I am not in the last group but I am on a suicide mission, if I continue smoking. I have already had bladder cancer. The nicotine in cigarettes is more addictive to humans than cocaine. Talk to any cocaine addict who also smokes and they will tell you that it is easier to get off the cocaine than it is the cigarettes. Don’t get me wrong, I am NOT advocating the use of cocaine. It is a very, very addictive drug. Many individuals and their families have been ruined by this drug. It is a no, no.Now, I have the feeling that there are a couple of groups out there that DO NOT want to see the consumption of cigarettes go down. One group is our Federal Governments. Our Governments take in vast amounts of tax dollars on cigarettes every year. They need this money. They cannot provide the services, to us the public, if they do not have this revenue. Don’t kid yourself, If everyone stopped smoking tomorrow, then our Governments would need to replace those lost tax dollars immediately. No institution private or governmental can have millions or billions of revenue removed from their budgets and still provide the same level of service to their public. Impossible to do. Something would have to give and you can be assured that it will not be the free or subsidized meals in the government‘s cafeterias.Where is this lost revenue going to come from? Well the governments way of increasing their revenue is by increasing taxes somewhere else. Well how about all baby products, all products for the disabled, higher income taxes, more taxes on gasoline or food. I have used these groups to try and make my point that this lost revenue will have to be obtained from other consumer products. This is the dilemma that our governments are in.They cannot afford to give ‘stop smoking campaigns’ anything more than lip service. If they sponsored a product that would help smokers quite 100% of the time and with some ease, they would immediately put themselves into the pickle barrel. Millions or billions of their revenue would be gone overnight. Why am I making such an outlandish statement? Well, a few months ago, I heard that they have developed a product that attacks the receptors in the brain for, I think it was cocaine. I will let you do the research. This product, I understand, allows the patient get off cocaine without going through the terrible, terrible withdrawals. No doubt in my mind that our Governments had a hand in the development of this product. It certainly would be to their advantage.Where is the product that will work the same way for nicotine? Every time that I have tried to quite using the VERY expensive ‘stop smoking aids’, I have just been providing more revenue for the drug companies. I have NOT been able to get over the withdrawals from nicotine. They have been absolutely hell for me. I cannot stand, walk, absolutely cannot drive, think properly to work, terrible mood swings and sick to my stomach. After a few days, I cannot take it any longer. Am I weak? In other things, I sure as hell am not. I have a feeling that in order for me to get off this dependency to nicotine, that I am going to have to spend a fortune at some clinic to get help. Are they going to be able to guarantee me that for this fortune that I will spend that they will be able to get me off cigarettes? ??Come on Governments step up to the plate and just don’t swing at the ball but hit the damn thing out of the park. Give us smokers a home run.
